   Chairman's Corner

The political contests of 2008 [have taken] shape.  There is much talk of plans for new entitlements, for retreats from commitments that deal with threats to our security, and of taxing the portions of our economy that keep it internationally competitive.  These ideas are offered under the superficially attractive label of “change”.  We Republicans know and understand that change as an operative word for political action is a double-edged sword.  Not all changes from the status quo are equally viable; some in fact, may contain elements that can reduce our society to one in which upward mobility, the real incentive in a democracy, is virtually lost.  Losing the freedom to raise ourselves up, one by one, would be a tragic loss and it would change our nation into something we were never intended to be.
Republicans understand that the integrity of our nation depends on personal achievement and productivity, and not on “feel-good” solutions of the kind offered by our opposition.  Now, more than ever, it is important that each of us understands the system of values that is the essence of our party—and having understood, to help others to understand, so that the elements of change are directed to sustaining opportunities for growth and not directed toward sinecure welfarism.
Dr. William (Bill) Kirk, Former Chairman
