John N. Lechner is a first term Republican Commissioner and serves as Secretary of the Mercer County Board of Commissioners. He is a 1970 graduate of Gannon University in Erie, PA where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He also holds a one year certification in Law Enforcement from Penn State University, is a graduate of the U.S. Army Leadership School, the U.S. Air Force Advanced Leadership School, the U.S. Air Force Command and General Staff College and Penn State's Police Executive Training Course.
Commissioner Lechner spent 26 years in the Pennsylvania State Police where he worked in Patrol, Criminal Investigation, Staff Services and Community Relations. He held several command positions with PSP and retired in 1998 as the Commanding Lieutenant of the New Castle Station.
Having also served 22 years with the U.S. Army and Air Force, both on active duty and in the reserves, Commissioner Lechner held four command positions spanning 15 of his 22 years and retired from the Youngstown Air Reserve Base in 1997 as a Lt. Colonel/Commander of the 76th Aerial Port Squadron. After his dual retirements he assumed a position in early 1999 as an Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Public Safety at Westminster College, retiring at the end of 2007 to begin his duties as a Mercer County Commissioner.
Commissioner John Lechner is active in many civic, fraternal and philanthropic organizations and has held numerous positions on their respective Boards of Directors.
He has been married for 31 years. He and his wife, Marilyn, have two children and make their home in Hermitage.

It is an honor and privilege to serve you as your County Treasurer.
By investing your money prudently and in a timely manner, I have made an average of $825,000 annually in interest. This is putting your hard earned money to work for you - the taxpayer.
The office is completely computerized and at very little expense to the taxpayer. My staff and I are always working to keep the office current with new, innovative ideas. As an example of one such idea, I crafted a program "Taking the People's Business to the People", whereby I established Dog License Agents at 16 different locations across the County to make it easier and more convenient for you to purchase your dog license.
I have always been in the forefront working with the sportsmen on the issues important to them. When changes occur in the licensing procedures, I personally visit local sportsmen clubs and organizations to update them on the changes.
The job of County Treasurer is much more than investing your tax dollars. As your Treasurer I am an agent for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the selling of:
(1) Dog Licenses (2) Hunting and Fishing Licenses (3) Pistol Permits (4) New Boat Registrations
(5) Small Games of Chance (6) Bingo Licenses
In addition to these duties the office receives money from your local tax collectors as well as other numerous funds received by the County. My office is responsible for approximately 150 bank accounts that are balanced daily with financial institutions and the County Comptroller.
